 The foundation of Maarifa is the rich and powerful history of the continent of Afrika and its descendants dispersed throughout the Diaspora.  Maarifa  is for anyone that would like to know more about the history of Afrika and the Afrikan diaspora. 

It is essential to the development of civilization and humanity that the role of Afrika be acknowledged and recognized.  Maarifa serves as a conduit for providing this knowledge through Afrikan centered consulting, courses and curriculum.

Yvette Walker (Mwalimu*Walker), Founder and Owner of Maarifa, is an Attorney, Freelance Writer, and Editor with more than 25 years of experience as an Educator including employment at an Afrikan Centered Charter School (Omuteko Gwamaziima). While employed at the charter school Mwalimu Walker held various positions including Director/Principal. As the Curriculum Consultant Mwalimu Walker developed an Afrikan centered K12 curriculum and pacing guide that integrated state standards and highlighted student wellbeing.  The implementation of the curriculum resulted in excellent standardized test scores for the school, improved student behavior and self perception.  Additionally, Mwalimu Walker has studied Afrikan history and the Afrikan Diaspora for most of her life and is even more convinced today of the importance of focusing on Afrika as the cradle of civilization and humanity. 

Yvette Walker earned an undergraduate degree from Duke University, a Masters degree from Brown University and a Juris Doctorate from North Carolina Central University School of Law.
